Musk first wanted to cut $2 trillion in spending, but this was reduced to $1 trillion, and then to only $150 billion. This caused a lot of disagreement within the Trump administration. He resigned after criticizing Trump's new laws, especially a "massive spending bill" that Musk said would increase the government's debt. Even though he left, the White House still plans to use some of his ideas for cutting costs. However, Musk has said he is disappointed with the government and plans to spend less money on politics.
