Musk first wanted to cut $2 trillion in spending, but this amount was reduced to $1 trillion, and then to just $150 billion. This made him and other members of Trump's team more frustrated and caused disagreements. Musk is leaving after he criticized Trump's new laws, especially a "very large spending bill" that Musk thinks will make the government's debt bigger. Even though he is leaving, the White House still plans to use some of Musk's ideas for cuts. However, Musk has said he is disappointed with how the government works and plans to spend less on politics.
