Mary Lou Retton, the famous American gymnast, was arrested in her hometown of West Virginia for driving under the influence (DUI), a minor offense. This happened on May 17th when police stopped her after reports of a Porsche being driven unsafely. Officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol, her speech was unclear, and there was an open wine bottle in the car. Retton, who is 57, failed a sobriety test and refused both a roadside breath test and a blood test. She was later released after paying a $1,500 bond. Her lawyer, Edmund J. Rollo, has not yet spoken about the situation. This incident comes after it was revealed in 2023 that Retton was recovering from a rare type of pneumonia that required her to be in intensive care because her oxygen levels were dangerously low.
