For President Donald Trump, getting a free new plane from Qatar is a very easy decision.

The Republican told reporters on Monday, "I would say yes to that offer. It would be silly to say, 'No, we don't want a free, very expensive airplane.'"

Some people are worried that this plan could make a symbol of American power have many problems with what is right, the law, safety, and secrets.

"This has never happened before," said Jessica Levinson, a law expert. "We have never tried these things before."

Trump tried to make people less against him. He said he would not use the free Boeing 747 plane after he is no longer president. He said the plane, which cost $400 million, would be given to a library for future presidents. This is similar to President Ronald Reagan's old plane, a Boeing 707. That plane was stopped from flying and put in a museum for people to see.

"It would go to the library right after I am not president anymore," Trump said. "I would not use it."

But this did not stop the argument about the plane. The Democrats are very angry, and even some people who support the Republican president are worried. A woman who talks a lot about strange ideas and wanted to remove officials who were not loyal wrote online that she would "take a bullet for Trump" but that she was "very disappointed."

Republicans in Congress have also said they are not sure about the plan.

Missouri Senator Josh Hawley said he thinks it would be best if the President's plane, Air Force One, was a big, nice plane made in America.

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul clearly stated he was against Trump accepting the plane. When asked to explain his reasons, Paul responded, "It doesn't look or feel right." The Republican shrugged when a reporter asked if there were constitutional issues.

People will probably keep asking Trump questions about the plane when he goes to the Middle East soon, including to Qatar.

The two planes the president uses, called Air Force One, are very old. They have been used for almost 40 years. President Trump wanted to get new ones. When he was president the first time, he showed a model of a new big plane in his office. It had a new paint design that looked like the red, white, and blue colors of his own plane.

Boeing is changing some 747 planes that were made for a Russian airline that stopped flying. But this work has been slow for almost ten years because of different problems. One company helping with the work went out of business. Also, it was hard to find and keep workers who could get important security papers.

The new planes are not expected to be ready until close to the end of President Trump's time in office. He is frustrated and has called the situation 'a total mess.' He has also complained that Air Force One is not as good as the planes used by some Arab leaders.

He said it was very different from what they knew.

Trump said Qatar offered a new plane to use while the government waited for Boeing to finish the other one.

"We're distributing items at no cost," he stated. "We'll also acquire one ourselves."

He did not like it when people said he should not take the plane. He said it was like getting help when playing golf.

When they say your shot is good, you pick up the ball and walk to the next hole and say, 'Thank you,' he said.

A leader in the Senate, John Thune from South Dakota, said he was not sure.

I understand why he is angry. They are very late with the next Air Force One. I am not sure if this is the best thing to do.

Workers are changing the wires in the new Boeing planes to special protected wires. They are also adding secret security and communication systems to the planes.

William Evanina, who worked for the government when Trump was president, wrote online that it will take a long time to take the plane apart and look for devices used for listening or spying.

During his second time as president, Trump's family business worked a lot in other countries. In December, they made a deal for two building projects in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. They worked with a Saudi company they had worked with before on a golf place and houses in Oman. Also, last month, the Trump Organization said they would build another place by the sea in Qatar.

Four Democrat senators said that Trump's plan was not good because it could cause problems with other countries and make people not trust the government.

They said that everyone must follow the law, even the president.
