Bill Gates spoke at his foundation's Goalkeepers event.

He said "increased generosity" and "the smart use of AI" could speed up the fight against inequality.

He asked rich countries to give more international aid.

He also asked them to use AI for "lifesaving innovations."

Gates is the chair of the foundation.

He spoke on Monday with political commentator Van Jones in New York.

He said the world did not build in the right human values.

He also said the world did not build ways to keep a moral code controlling what AIs do.

The foundation holds this event every year.

It opened with a reminder.

Last year, 26 of the world's 34 richest countries cut development aid to poorer countries.

The U.N. has warned that progress on its sustainable development goals is "slow and uneven."

Gates suggested this is happening when "we have some of the best innovations ever to improve people's lives."

The event showed educators, farmers and health workers using AI.

They use it to find students' learning gaps, fight pest infestations and better recall patients' medical records.

The Gates Foundation announced a new group of 60 partners.

The partners include Anthropic, Google, OpenAI Foundation and many other organizations.

The group wants to make AI easier to use in underrepresented languages.

It aims to reach more than 3 billion people over five years.

Foundation CEO Mark Suzman said this work must continue "full speed ahead."

Some large AI companies are asking their industry to slow down.

Suzman said governments must control the effects on cybersecurity and children's development.

He also said they must bring AI's helpful uses to poor communities.

The new group follows last week's Goalkeepers report.

In that report, the foundation promised $1 billion to AI work in health, education and farming.

The report warned about language data that is not representative.

It said this could make a model mistranslate a pregnant Malawi woman saying her "water has broken."

Mozilla Data Collective CEO E.M. Lewis-Jong said the "original sin" is that many AI tools were trained on data scraped from the internet.

She said the internet is not a representative space.

Suzman said the group's governance details are still being worked out.
