The two countries are moving forward with AI in different ways.

U.S. companies build new and powerful AI models.

They use the best chips and more and more data centers.

China is pushing other countries to use its open-source models.

These models are cheaper.

They have become popular with American companies, even though the U.S. limits chip sales.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Tuesday that the U.S. needs more open-source models to counter China.

The U.S. has said China tries to take abilities from American AI systems.

China says the U.S. wants an "AI monopoly."

Trump adviser David Sacks said China has "already rejected" slowing AI development.

He said promises cannot be checked.

Still, former Chinese ambassador Cui Tiankai said at a Beijing conference that dialogue is needed.

Anthropic and OpenAI both limit access in China.

They cite national security.

But they also call for working together on safety.
