Unitree is a big Chinese company that makes human-like robots.

On Wednesday, its shares went up by as much as 629% on its first day of trading in Shanghai.

The company got about 6.1 billion yuan ($904 million) from its listing on the STAR market.

Its shares closed 460% higher at 845 yuan ($125.31).

Advanced robots are an important part of the technology fight between China and the U.S.

China is ahead in making many products and in factory size.

Last year, Unitree and AGIBOT each sent over 5,000 human-like robots to buyers around the world.

That is far more than U.S. companies, according to Omdia.

For the first half of 2026, Omdia thinks Chinese makers will send about 18,500 robots.

Analysts say many human-like robots are still used mostly for shows and for research.

Analyst Kangyuxiao Li from Morningstar said the real test is if companies can make robots work well in big factories.

Unitree said it will use the money from its IPO for robot research and for making more robots.

Unitree is the first human-like robot maker to sell shares on the mainland China market.

Its first day of trading came at the same time as the World Robot Conference in Beijing.

The company said it made about 1.7 billion yuan ($250 million) in 2025.

More than 40% of that money came from other countries.

The U.S. gave about 13% of its money last year.

But a U.S. ban on new foreign-made robots could hurt future sales.

Lian Jye Su from Omdia said Chinese makers will likely look for buyers outside the U.S., like in Europe.
