By 2030, OpenAI anticipates allocating a smaller proportion of its revenue to Microsoft, its investor and principal partner, according to financial records cited by The Information.
This news follows OpenAI's recent decision to change its plan for a big change. The new plan is that its part that makes money will become a public benefit corporation (PBC), but it will still be controlled by its part that does not make money.
OpenAI currently has a deal to give 20% of its total income to Microsoft. However, the AI company has told investors it plans to share 10% of its income with its business partners, including Microsoft, by 2030, according to The Information.
Microsoft has committed substantial capital, investing tens of billions in OpenAI. The two entities are bound by an agreement extending to 2030, which stipulates mutual revenue sharing. Furthermore, this arrangement grants Microsoft entitlements to OpenAI's intellectual property for integration into its AI offerings, alongside exclusive access to OpenAI's APIs on its Azure platform.
According to a Bloomberg report on Monday, Microsoft has not yet endorsed OpenAI's proposed corporate framework, as the larger technology firm allegedly aims to ensure the new configuration safeguards its substantial multi-billion-dollar investment.
OpenAI and Microsoft did not promptly respond to inquiries for comment.
