Google's app for iPhones now has a new 'Simplify' tool. It uses AI to make hard-to-understand text on websites easier to read. You can use it right on the web page.
Simplify uses a method from Google Research that uses Gemini to make hard texts easier to read without losing important details. Google tested this and found that the simpler text helped people understand and remember the first information better.
Google wants people to use its tools and services, like the Simplify feature, to understand difficult topics. They hope people will do this instead of using other popular tools like OpenAI's ChatGPT.
Google 앱에서 웹 페이지를 볼 때, 글자를 선택하면 'Simplify' 버튼이 나타납니다. 이 버튼을 누르면 글자가 더 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 바뀌어서 읽기 편해집니다.
Google's research blog shows examples of how this feature could work. For example, a sentence might say: "This disease is complicated and affects the lungs in several ways, like damaging air sacs, causing scarring, changing immune cells, increasing immune regulators, and changing lung blood vessels."
This serious lung problem damages the lung tissue because of emphysema and creates scars called fibrosis. It also changes the types of immune cells and makes more factors that control the immune system. The blood vessels in the lungs also change a lot.
Google says the main idea of this function is to help people understand difficult topics more easily when they learn new things online.
Google said in a blog post that their goal is for the model to explain complex ideas correctly. The model should not make mistakes or leave out important details. The new text should help readers understand difficult information without changing the original meaning.
Simplify will be gradually rolled out to iOS users this week.
