Aaron Judge, a three-time AL MVP, is set to miss the majority, if not the entirety, of the remainder of the regular season, following the New York Yankees' announcement on Friday that he will be placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right calf strain.
New York announced that the roster move would be executed on Saturday.
The placement could be retroactively dated to Thursday, thereby rendering it conceivable that Judge might return in time for New York’s regular-season finale on Sept. 27.
Judge was withdrawn in favor of a pinch hitter in the sixth inning Wednesday during a game against the Minnesota Twins, owing to discomfort in his leg.
At the time, he characterized it as a precautionary move.
Since returning last week from a broken rib that had kept him out of the lineup for over three months, Judge has gone 4 for 26 across seven games, striking out 13 times and recording one extra-base hit.
