College football’s first weekend starts with one game between ranked teams.
No. 24 Louisville plays No. 9 Mississippi on Sunday night.
Many top teams have new coaches and big hopes.
Some players cannot play because of eligibility rules.
Team patches on shirts also make things interesting.
Clemson plays No. 11 LSU on Saturday night.
It is a big showcase game.
Both teams finished 7-6 last season.
They want to return to the level before the war.
LSU’s new coach is Lane Kiffin.
Clemson’s coach is Dabo Swinney.
Both men speak their minds.
The game became more important after new NCAA rules.
These rules led to court fights.
LSU wanted to bring back players who had signed NFL contracts.
The SEC fought LSU in many courts late into the week.
Week 1 has few big games, so many scores will be one-sided.
No. 1 Ohio State is expected to win by more than 50 points against Ball State.
No. 6 Indiana, No. 8 Texas A&M, and No. 10 Oklahoma are each expected to win by over 40.
But surprises can happen.
UMass won no games last season.
Still, they beat Rutgers 37-21 as a big underdog.
Colorado blocked a field goal and beat Georgia Tech 14-13.
Notre Dame’s CJ Carr and Texas’s Arch Manning lead the talk about the Heisman.
Carr plays Wisconsin on Sunday night.
Manning plays Texas State.
No. 2 Oregon hosts Boise State.
Other games include Auburn vs. Baylor and Tulane at Duke.
The weekend runs from Thursday to Monday.
The next AP Top 25 list comes out on Tuesday.
