The Alpine Formula 1 outfit has modified its driver roster, electing to elevate Franco Colapinto for a minimum of the ensuing five Grands Prix, thereby displacing Jack Doohan.
Alpine ratified the alteration on Wednesday, a day after Oliver Oakes' resignation as team principal, with the team stating that Flavio Briatore will retain his role as executive advisor and absorb Oakes' responsibilities.
Alpine articulated that Colapinto is slated to be yoked with Pierre Gasly from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix onwards, prior to a subsequent appraisal preceding the British Grand Prix in July.
Subsequent to the initial sextet of Formula 1 rounds, Alpine occupies the ninth berth in the constructors' championship hierarchy; the forthcoming race weekend is slated to transpire at Imola between the sixteenth and eighteenth of May.
In the nascent stages of Sunday's Miami Grand Prix, Doohan was embroiled in a vehicular entanglement on the inaugural circuit, culminating in a substantial impact incident on the subsequent lap.
In the days leading up to the Miami Grand Prix weekend, Oakes unequivocally repudiated media reports concerning a putative driver rotation, having previously signalled his intention for the rookie Australian pilot to retain his position.
Doohan, whose seven Grand Prix outings yielded no points and a pedestrian 13th as his apogee, is poised to resume his role as the outfit's reserve driver.
Scion of five-time motorcycle world champion Mick Doohan, Jack Doohan commenced his Formula 1 career in the culminating race of 2024, subsequently contesting the season-opening Australian Grand Prix this year for Alpine, deputising for Esteban Ocon, who had departed the outfit following a lacklustre 2024 campaign.
Colapinto's assimilation into Alpine as a reserve driver in January followed his 2024 campaign with Williams, where he garnered a quintet of points subsequent to superseding Logan Sargeant in August.
