The 78th Emmy Awards have arrived.

“The Pitt” will seek to secure its standing within the television pantheon, while “Widow’s Bay” will ride a surge of buzz into the ceremony Monday night at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Mariska Hargitay, the longtime star of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and a three-time Emmy winner, will host the show on NBC, which has rolled out a peacock blue carpet for the occasion, a nod to the network’s 100th anniversary.

The ceremony will additionally commemorate the 30th anniversary of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and the 50th anniversary of “Charlie’s Angels,” with cast members featuring among the presenters.

The Emmys telecast alternates among the broadcast networks, and this year it is being aired live on NBC while simultaneously streaming live on Peacock at 8 p.m. Eastern, 5 p.m. Pacific.

The show’s ensemble got four nominations in the supporting actress category and three more for supporting actor.

“Hacks” earned the most nominations of any comedy for its fifth and final season on HBO Max, and star Jean Smart is virtually assured of going 5-for-5 with another win for best actress in a comedy.

Yet the Apple TV horror comedy “Widow’s Bay” could spoil the “Hacks” send-off, since it comes into the evening with eight wins from earlier ceremonies, where most of the well over 100 Emmy categories are awarded.

The show could potentially add up to six more on Monday.

Should it do so, it would surpass the record of 13 Emmys for a comedy in a single season, which was established last year by “The Studio.”

Matthew Rhys, the lead actor of “Widow’s Bay”, is widely tipped to take home the award for best actor in a comedy, while Kate O’Flynn, the series’ breakout performer, stands as a formidable contender for best supporting actress.

Rhea Seehorn portrays the sole central character in Apple TV’s “Pluribus,” a role that could propel her to her first Emmy for best actress in a drama.

Seehorn’s rivals in the category include Zendaya, who took home the award for the first two seasons of “Euphoria” in 2020 and 2022, and who is nominated for its third and final season.

The night might also bring 84-year-old Harrison Ford his first Emmy — and his first major competitive Hollywood award of any kind — as he is among the favourites for best supporting actor in a comedy, for his portrayal of a therapist coping with Parkinson's disease on "Shrinking."
