Duane "Keffe D" Davis, 63, is accused of planning the 1996 drive-by shooting.

That shooting killed Tupac Shakur and wounded Marion "Suge" Knight.

His jury trial starts Aug. 10.

This is nearly three years after his arrest in 2023.

He has said he is not guilty.

On Sept. 7, 1996, Shakur sat in the passenger seat of a BMW.

Knight was driving the car.

A white Cadillac pulled up beside them, and gunfire started.

Shakur died one week later at age 25.

Knight was hurt but lived.

Police say the shooting came from a fight between East Coast and West Coast gang groups.

Davis has said he led a Crips group in Compton, California.

Three other men were in the Cadillac that night.

None faced charges before they died.

Davis' nephew, Orlando Anderson, sat in the back seat.

People have long thought he was the shooter.

He died in 1998.

Another passenger, Terrence "Big Dre" Smith, died in 2004.

The driver, Terry Brown, died in 2015.

Davis said he got a handgun but did not say who fired the deadly shots.
