People were worried about Los Angeles. They thought it could become like Detroit. Detroit lost its main jobs. Los Angeles makes films and TV. This is its main job. People talked about this problem. They also talked about getting more money from the state to make films and TV.
On Monday, they talked about the music and finishing part of making movies.
If we don't do something, the film and TV jobs in California will go away, like the car jobs in Detroit.
It is a hard time for a plan to give more money to movie companies. Some people think it is bad to give money to big companies.
He said studios can work anywhere. They still make shows. This is a problem for normal people, not rich people.
This program helps people keep their jobs and homes.
He said, "Other countries have tax plans for rich people. Why? Because they help pay for things. And people want these jobs. Why do we let others take the jobs we made here?"
Many people from film and music came to the event.
This happened after a report said that filming days were much less in the first three months of 2025 than in the same time last year.
"These jobs are still here, but they are in other places," said Alex LoVerde from ProdPro. He said that in the US, making things went down by 26% since 2022. In Australia, making things went up by 14%.
People talked about making movies and music. They said artists are not getting much work. One person said she only worked a little bit. She asked, "What can I say to someone who wants to work here?" Another person said he had sad talks with his family about money.
Music people talked about problems. Recording music days in L.A. are much less now. It is cheaper to make music in Austria and Slovakia.
Karen wanted a special rule for movie sounds.
Movies went to other places, but they finished in California. Now, this is not true. Work on movies like effects, sound, and music is leaving California. People go to other places for tax money. This means California lost many jobs. Not only in movies, but in other jobs that help movie people.
Leaders in the state know it's a bad time.
The ideas can help, but they are not the full answer.
People want more films and TV shows made in L.A.
But people in the industry need to talk together.
Landers said, "The world is watching California. They want to see what we do."
