由於政策和市場存在不確定性，日本汽車能源供應公司（AESC）已暫緩在南卡羅來納州興建一座價值十六億美元的電池工廠。這座工廠原先計畫為BMW的電動車系列供應電池。
南卡羅來納州州長亨利·麥克巴特表示，工程暫停的原因是聯邦政府可能取消電動車買家的稅務優惠和給電動車公司的獎勵，加上川普政府的關稅政策還不明朗。儘管工程暫停，AESC公司仍承諾會僱用1,600名員工並投資16億美元，而且他們已經在佛羅倫斯工廠投資了10億美元。同時，南卡羅來納州持續大力投資電動車產業，福斯集團旗下的Scout Motors計劃在2027年前投資20億美元，在新工廠生產電動休旅車。普遍的擔憂是，川普政府如果提高關稅，可能會影響南卡羅來納州與BMW、米其林、三星等外國製造商的合作關係。
