President Trump's multi-trillion-dollar tax breaks package has received a lot of criticism because people are worried it could make the federal debt worse. Important critics, like Republican senators, global investors, voters, and Elon Musk, are concerned that the new policy might not lower deficits as much as promised. The White House has said these worries are not true, claiming that the tax and spending cuts, which are expected to add over $5 trillion to the national debt in the next ten years, will help the economy grow and make the deficit smaller compared to the whole economy. However, most economists are not sure if the plan can create enough growth to balance out the higher debt. Also, the tax and spending cuts are planned to end in 2028, which could cause a difficult policy problem for future lawmakers. While the White House is depending on money from tariffs to pay for the extra deficits, recent court decisions have made this strategy seem less likely to work.
