In May, people in the US felt more confident about the economy, according to the Conference Board. This happened after five months of feeling less positive. The confidence index increased by 12.3 points to 98, up from 85.7 in April, which was the lowest point since the pandemic started. This improvement seems to be because worries about how President Trump's tariffs would affect the economy became a little less serious. However, people's short-term expectations for their income, business, and jobs stayed below 80, which might mean a recession is coming soon. The Labor Department reported that 177,000 jobs were created in April, which helped people feel more confident. But, concerns about tariffs and rising prices were still very common in the survey answers. Despite these worries, people said they planned to spend more money on houses, cars, and holidays.
