In May, people in the US felt more confident about the economy, according to the Conference Board. This was after five months of decreasing confidence. The confidence index went up by 12.3 points to 98, which is higher than April's 85.7. April was the lowest point since the pandemic started. This increase in confidence seems to be because people are a little less worried about how President Trump's tariffs will affect the economy. However, people's short-term expectations for their income, business, and jobs stayed below 80. This might mean that a recession is coming soon. The Labor Department reported that 177,000 jobs were created in April, which helped people feel better. But worries about tariffs and rising prices were still the main concerns in the survey. Despite this, people said they planned to spend more money on houses, cars, and holidays.
