A company stopped selling old jewels because India said no.
The jewels for sale were found in north India in 1898. They are very old.
But India's Ministry of Culture said on Facebook that they told Sotheby's to stop the sale.
They sent a letter. In the letter, they said the sale has important Buddhist things from India. These things are part of India's religion and culture. They want the things to go back to India. They also want the company and a person named Chris Peppé to say sorry.
Peppé is the great-grandson of William Peppé. William was from Britain and he found old things.
India says if the auction house does not listen, it will go to court. It will also tell people that the auction house is helping to sell old things that are not right.
Sotheby's said they will do the auction later.
This helps people talk together. We will share news when it is right.
Some pages on the Sotheby's website for the sale were not there on Wednesday.
The government in India said on Facebook that they were happy because the sale was stopped.
