Trade rules have changed a lot, and this makes companies worried. Some big shops in the U.S. have already made prices higher, or said they will soon.
Donald Trump made new taxes for things coming into America. Other countries like China did the same. Some taxes are gone now, but many are still there for businesses.
Companies pay taxes on things they buy from other countries. This makes these things cost more. So, people pay more for them in shops. Some people think these taxes will help our country make more things here. But many things we buy come from all over the world. Experts say these taxes will make many things cost more.
Some shops have higher prices now. Here are some big shops that say prices will go up because of trade problems:
Walmart is now on the list. On Thursday, the shop said it must sell things for more money because of new taxes.
Walmart buys many things from America. But some things cost more now. Prices at Walmart went up a little in April. They will go up more in June and July when people buy things for school.
John, who works with money at the company, said that some things will cost more. For example, bananas from Costa Rica are now 54 cents instead of 50 cents. Also, car seats from China at Walmart may cost $100 more, so they will be $450.
Rainey told the AP that they want to keep prices low. But they can only do so much, like other shops.
The company that makes Barbie and Hot Wheels said they may need to make prices higher to pay for new taxes.
The toy company makes some of its toys in China. They said prices may go up on May 5. The U.S. and China made a deal for 90 days to lower taxes. But taxes are still higher than before.
Mattel said they will make about 500 toys in other countries instead of China this year. Last year, they did this for 280 toys. For some popular toys, they will use factories in more than one country.
In May, Microsoft made Xbox consoles and controllers more expensive in shops. For example, the Xbox Series S now costs $379.99 in the U.S. It was $299.99 before. The Xbox Series X now costs $599.99. It was $499.99 before.
Microsoft said the changes are hard. They said this in May. They talked about prices and making new things.
Microsoft said the price of Xbox will change in Europe, the U.K., and Australia. Other countries will also hear about changes. Some new games from Microsoft will cost more money later this year, about $80.
Last month, Temu and Shein said prices will go up. They said this is because of new rules about buying and selling things around the world.
In April, prices went up for many things, especially before May 2. On May 2, a rule changed for items from China, and some shops used this rule to pay less money. The U.S. and China made a deal this week to help a bit. But these items still cost extra. If they come from China by mail, they now cost 54% more (it was 120% more before).
Before this, Temu seemed to stop sending things from China. They started using things they already had in America. Temu still shows many things from local places that have no extra import costs for buyers in America. Shein says that the price you see includes all taxes. You will not pay more when your order arrives.
The company Stanley Black & Decker said prices went up in April. They plan to raise prices again soon because things cost more.
Donald Allan, Jr. said last month that they are changing their supply chain and looking at all choices to make tariffs have less effect on customers and to protect their business.
Procter & Gamble makes things like toothpaste and soap. They said prices may go up for shoppers soon because it costs more to make these things.
