Officials in South Korea said on Wednesday that a court in the Czech Republic stopped a big plan for South Korea to build two nuclear power plants there. But they said it was only a short delay and that they are sure the plan will still happen.
A company from South Korea wanted to make a deal this week to build a nuclear power station in the Czech Republic. But a court in the Czech Republic said the deal cannot happen yet. A French company that also wanted the job complained to the court.
A minister from South Korea said the court's choice would only make the contract signing happen later. He said everything else would happen on time if the deal is finished. He also said the Czech government did not think the court would stop the deal, and that CEZ wants to ask the court to look at it again.
We don't know when the court in Czechia will decide about that appeal.
Ahn said the Czech government didn't think EDF's claims were a big problem. They asked us to come to the signing ceremony. It seems the government's idea was not the same as the court's decision.
The Czech Prime Minister, Petr Fiala, said on Wednesday that his government accepts the court's decision. He also said: "I think the judges and the court know how important this decision is and how it will affect the safety of the Czech Republic and what is good for our country."
Lee Ju-Ho, the temporary leader of South Korea, said that South Korea will talk a lot with the Czech Republic to finish the agreement quickly.
In July, CEZ chose KHNP to build two big nuclear reactors. They did not choose EDF. EDF was not happy about this. Last week, EDF went to court. They said the way CEZ chose was not fair.
Last month, the former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol lost his job. This happened after he tried to use martial law in December, but it did not work well. Before he left, he said he wanted to sell more nuclear power plants to other countries. He believed that selling nuclear power was harder because the government before him wanted South Korea to use less nuclear energy. Yoon's government had a plan to sell 10 nuclear power plants by the year 2030.
