A new rule about trees in Peru is making people angry.
Now, people do not need to ask the state to change forests. Some people think this could make it okay for people to cut down trees illegally for many years.
"This is a big problem for us," said a lawyer.
He said the change is bad because it makes land that is for the country into land for one person or company.
People who like the new law say it helps farms in Peru and is better for farmers.
A news group asked people in farming and a politician about the law. Only one person in farming answered, but they said nothing.
Peru has a lot of Amazon rainforest, but Brazil has more. Many different plants, animals, and people live in this forest.
A old law from 2011 stopped people from cutting down trees. New rules now let people cut trees more easily.
The court said the new land law is okay. Some parts changed, but the last part stayed. It says old land changes that were wrong are okay. People who know about laws think this part is bad.
The court said they should have talked to the people who live there about changing the law. It also said the nature office helps decide where the forest is.
A lawyer said: "The court agrees the law was bad for native people. They should have been asked. But the court still says the bad part is okay."
Peru wants to change rules like Brazil did. Brazil's old leader changed rules for farms. Now, in Peru, different groups want the same.
In Peru, some people help. These are big farms, people who take land, and people who do bad things with mining and drugs. Small farmers are scared about their land and they also help.
Good groups and bad groups are working together, said Vladimir Pinto from Amazon Watch.
Julia from Peru says the government is wrong. They say changes are needed for the EU. But the EU wants companies to show their products, like meat and oil, do not come from land where trees were cut down illegally.
She said if wood from cutting trees illegally can be sold, rules in places like Europe will not work well.
This is not good for world business and makes it harder to stop cutting down trees, Urrunaga said.
Olivier Coupleux from the EU in Peru said the new laws are not connected to the EU rule about trees.
Coupleux says the new rule stops buying things from places where trees are cut down. It does not need new laws. It needs to know where things like coffee and wood come from, and if they are good for the Earth.
Groups cannot go to courts in their country. So, they will go to courts in other countries. They say the court decision is bad. It can help other countries break rules about nature.
Many native leaders think the law is bad for their land, their people, and how they live.
Julio Cusurichi said this action will make it easy to take land. It will also make it hard to protect nature in places that are already in danger.
Our people always kept our land and the Earth safe, Cusurichi said.
