A new law in Peru is making people angry. Groups say it can hurt the Amazon forest more. They say it is for money, but it is bad for trees.

Now, people don't need to ask the state to change forests into other land. Some people think this is bad because people cut down trees illegally before.

Alvaro Masquez Salvador said, 'This is a very big problem for us.'

He said this change is bad because the land belongs to everyone, not just one person.

People who like the new rule say it will help farms in Peru and give farmers clear laws.

News people asked farmers in Peru about a new rule. They also asked a woman in government, Maria Zeta Chunga, who likes the rule. Only one farmer answered, but they said they did not want to say anything.

Peru has a big part of the Amazon rainforest. It is the second biggest part after Brazil. This forest is home to many different plants and animals. Many different people live there too. Some people live away from others. These people help protect the forest. The forest is good for the whole world. It takes in bad air and helps the weather.

An old rule said you needed state permission to change forests. New rules make the old rule weaker. Now, you can change forests without asking, and past changes are okay too.

The court in Peru said the new law is okay.

The court said it was wrong. It said people from the land should have a say about changes to the law. It also said the Environment Ministry is in charge of where forests are.

A lawyer named César Ipenza said: "The court knows the law was bad for native people and they should have been asked, but it still says the worst part is okay."

This change is like what happened before in Brazil.

In Peru, some people help. These are big farms, people who take land, and people in bad mining and drugs. Small farmers who want to keep their land also help.

Vladimir Pinto from Amazon Watch said, "Good people and bad people are working together."

Julia says the government is wrong. They say changes are needed for Europe's rules. Soon, companies must show their products like soy and beef don't come from cut-down forests.

She said if bad wood can be sold, the rules are not strong.

This is not good for markets everywhere, Urrunaga said.

Olivier Coupleux from the EU in Peru says new rules are not because of EU forest rules.

Coupleux said the new rule stops buying things from places where trees are cut down. It does not need new laws. It needs to know where things like coffee, chocolate, and wood come from and if they are good for the earth.

Groups want to go to courts in other countries because the court's decision is bad for the environment and could be a bad example for other countries.

Many Indigenous people think the law is bad for their land, homes, and life.

Julio Cusurichi said the new rule is not good for the land and nature in places that are already not strong.

Our people always kept our lands and the world safe.
