U.N.-backed experts say they found “reasonable grounds” to believe the United States committed war crimes.

They point to two strikes in Iran.

One strike hit a school in the southern city of Minab.

The experts also accuse Iran’s government of crimes against humanity against its own people.

Their report was published Thursday.

The report is not binding.

It adds to international evidence about crimes in the war in Iran.

It could later be used in efforts to reach justice in international courts.

The fact-finding mission on Iran is chaired by jurist Sara Hossain of Bangladesh.

It was created in 2022 by the Human Rights Council.

This is the U.N.’s top human rights body in Geneva.

The experts said their findings on U.S. war crimes center on two airstrikes.

These strikes killed at least 178 civilians, including women and children.

They said one U.S. missile hit the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab on Feb. 28.

Iranian state media have said 168 people were killed there, most of them children.

The experts concluded the school building was the intended target.

It was not an errant strike or collateral damage.

The White House rejected the findings.

Spokeswoman Anna Kelly said the human rights body has “accomplished nothing for human rights.”

She said the only party that has committed war crimes is the Iranian regime.

The experts also said Iranian security forces carried out violent repression.

They said many violations amount to crimes against humanity.

They said the United States and Iran should halt all violations.

They also said both countries should provide full reparations to victims.
