Yemen’s Houthi rebels have become a big problem in the Middle East.

They have attacked Israel, Saudi Arabia, and world shipping routes.

They say they do this to support Iran.

The rebels have been fighting Yemen’s recognized government since 2014.

Saudi Arabia joined the war in 2015.

It fought on the government’s side.

A ceasefire mostly stopped the fighting in 2022.

Then the Houthis attacked Israel and ships in the Red Sea.

This happened after Hamas’ attack on Oct. 7, 2023.

Those attacks stopped after U.S. airstrikes in early 2025.

In July, the Houthis started attacking Saudi Arabia again.

They also said they would stop ships from reaching the oil company.

The Houthis are part of a minority Shiite group called Zaydi.

Their official slogan says they want death to America and Israel.

The war has killed about 150,000 people.

It has also pushed Yemen close to famine.

Saudi Arabia and its allies have stopped ships from reaching Houthi areas.

This has made life worse for people there.

The Houthis are part of Iran’s “Axis of Resistance.”

Iran says it does not give them weapons.

But weapons have been found on ships going to Yemen.

From November 2023 to December 2024, the Houthis attacked more than 100 business ships.

They sank two of them.

Their attacks on Saudi oil ships help Iran.

They open a new fight in the regional war.
