On Tuesday, a student shot people at a school in Austria. Ten people died, and twelve people were hurt. The student then died, police said.
We don't know why the 21-year-old man did it. The police did not know him. He had two guns. Police think he had them legally.
Today is a bad day for Austria. Christian Stocker said this to reporters in Graz. Graz is a big city in Austria.
He said it was "very sad for the country and for us all". He said people will remember those who died for three days. The flag will be lower at buildings. People will be quiet for one minute on Wednesday to think about those who died.
Police went to a school in Graz after people called at 10 a.m. They said they heard shots. The school is near the city center. Many police officers went there. Students left the school quickly.
The police said it was safe again after 17 minutes.
Police said a man did it alone. He was 21 years old and from Austria. He lived near Graz. We don't know his name yet.
Police chief Gerald Ortner said two guns were used. Police found a big gun and a small gun. It seems the man had these guns. The man killed himself in a bathroom.
Gerhard Karner said the shooter went to the school. He did not finish school. Karner did not say when he left or how old he was.
Karner said on Tuesday that six women and three men died. He did not say more. He said twelve people were hurt. Later, a hospital said one more woman died.
The Red Cross in Austria sent 65 ambulances and 158 helpers. They are helping people who are hurt. Also, 40 people are talking to students and parents to make them feel better. The Red Cross also asked people to give blood.
Metin Özden was in his food shop near the school. He heard police cars and a helicopter. He said, "Something bad happened. I saw many police and helpers." He saw parents crying near his shop.
Tuesday's attack was very bad. It was the worst attack in Austria after the Second World War.
In 2020, four people died in Vienna. The bad man also died. He liked the Islamic State group. More than 20 other people got hurt. A police officer also got hurt.
In June 2015, a man drove his car into many people in Graz. Three people died, and more than 30 people were hurt.
Austria likes to hunt. It has gun laws that are not strict. Other countries in Europe have stricter gun laws.
In Austria, you can buy some guns like rifles when you are 18. You don't need special permission. Shops check if you can buy guns. They write the gun's name in a book.
Some guns are harder to get. If you want a repeating shotgun or a semi-automatic gun, you need a gun card and a pass.
