King Charles III gave a speech to the Canadian Parliament, which was not common. He spoke about Canada being a separate country, especially because the US President had talked about taking it over. The King said Canada is its own country and part of the Commonwealth. He knew that Canada is facing hard times and that many people are worried. He also promised to keep the French language and culture in Quebec safe, as they are very important to Canada. This was his first visit to Canada as King. It happened when the US President had threatened to put high taxes on Canadian goods and said Canada was not spending enough on its army. The King finished his speech by saying Canada is independent and will work with Europe on defense, without buying from the US.
