Landowners, ranchers and business owners in Texas’s Big Bend area are suing.

They want to stop the Trump administration’s border wall plans.

The group Conserve Big Bend and six landowners filed the lawsuit.

Dozens of other people along the border support them.

The administration is spending $46 billion on walls, barriers and technology.

This is along the southern border, which is about 2,000 miles long.

In Texas, the effort has faced many lawsuits.

Sheriffs, officials, tour guides, environmental groups and landowners from both parties oppose it.

David Keller is an archaeologist and historian who lives in the area.

He said officials were not ready for the opposition.

He said Big Bend is not an empty place on the map.

It is their home.

The administration has waived environmental, archaeological and wildlife rules.

It says there is an urgent need in areas of “high illegal entry.”

The plaintiffs say that description is wrong for Big Bend.

They cite Customs and Border Protection numbers.

The area has about 500 miles of border, about one quarter of the total.

But it has only about 1% of arrests.

Laura Allen voted for Trump two times.

She is a former county judge.

Her family ranch would be cut by the wall.

She said arrests have dropped more since Trump returned to office.

She thanked Trump for securing the border.

She said it was time to let it go.

The plaintiffs say Homeland Security is misusing powers given by Congress to waive rules.

The lawsuit is the latest effort to slow the administration’s plans in Texas and other places.
