The reason is postpartum psychosis.

This is a rare mental illness that can happen after childbirth.

The defense called family members.

They talked about her mental health getting worse.

They also called Dr. Phillip Resnick.

He is a forensic psychiatrist.

He said Clancy was "clearly psychotic."

He said she was not in control of her actions on the day of the killings.

Resnick said Clancy told him she heard a voice.

The voice told her to kill her children.

He said she had a false belief.

She thought her children would be better off if they died with her and went to heaven.

He said she believed she was doing the right thing for her children.

The prosecutors disagreed with this view.

They said Clancy was getting treatment.

They said she was not suffering from psychosis.
