Despite the ongoing tumult of protests, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen vowed the unremitting continuation of the Trump administration's immigration crackdown.
The deployment of the National Guard to quell protests was triggered by a temporary restraining order, subsequently overturned by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which had deemed the deployment unlawful, although the order was specifically limited to the Guard and explicitly excluded the Marine Corps, deployed in response to escalating demonstrations concerning immigration enforcement.
Governor Gavin Newsom, having called for an immediate cessation of immigration enforcement operations, lauded the judicial ruling, while White House spokesperson Anna Kelley staunchly defended the President's actions as within his purview, amidst continuing nationwide protests and the replication of Los Angeles' immigration enforcement model elsewhere, even as Newsom conceded the implacability of federal authorities.
