Famous American gymnast Mary Lou Retton was arrested in her hometown of West Virginia for drunk driving, which is a minor offense. Police arrested her on May 17th after getting a report about a Porsche being driven dangerously. When officers stopped Retton, they noticed she smelled of alcohol, her speech was unclear, and there was a wine bottle in the passenger seat. Retton, who is 57, failed a sobriety test and refused to take a breath test or a blood test. She was later released from jail after paying $1,500. Her lawyer, Edmund J. Rollo, has not yet commented on the situation. This incident happened after it was revealed in 2023 that Retton was recovering from a rare type of pneumonia. This illness caused her to be admitted to intensive care because her oxygen levels were very low.
