WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans are seeking to appropriate a sum of up to $5 billion annually for bursaries aimed at facilitating families' matriculation of their children into independent and denominational educational institutions, representing an unparalleled endeavour to utilise public funds for the subvention of private schooling.

The proposal, embedded within a budget reconciliation bill unveiled on Monday, would serve to advance President Donald Trump's agenda of establishing "universal school choice" by conferring upon families nationwide the prerogative to furnish their children with an educational experience distinct from that proffered by their local public school, with eligibility extending to virtually all households save for those whose income surpasses thrice the local median.

Proponents of private school voucher programmes assert their intention to expand the range of educational options available to families whose children are arbitrarily assigned to underperforming scholastic institutions.
