Aaron Sorkin made "The Social Network" in 2010.

At that time, he knew little about Facebook.

Now he has written and directed a new film.

It is called "The Social Reckoning."

The film is about what Facebook has become.

Sorkin says the movie looks at Facebook's role in extremism and division.

Sony will release it on Oct. 9.

Sorkin was not sure about returning to this subject.

The first film is highly praised.

He changed his mind after meeting whistleblower Frances Haugen and reporter Jeff Horwitz.

The new film stars Mikey Madison as Haugen.

Jeremy Allen White plays Horwitz.

Jeremy Strong plays Mark Zuckerberg.

He replaces Jesse Eisenberg, who did not want the role again.

Sorkin started the project around 2019.

He wrote an op-ed to Zuckerberg before that.

He said Facebook allowed "crazy lies" to spread.

He also blames the company for the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

Zuckerberg and Meta have not commented on the film.

Sorkin has never met Zuckerberg.

He says he works backward from Zuckerberg's thinking to understand his choices.

Strong, however, emailed Zuckerberg.

He also defended him during filming.

Sorkin notes that Facebook now has about 3 billion users.

And 38% of Americans get news from it.
