Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said Monday that President Donald Trump asked Apple to rename Lake Ontario to "Lake America" on its maps app.

Burgum told Fox's "Mornings with Maria" that Trump called Apple directly.

He said he thinks the new name will appear on the platform soon.

Apple did not comment.

Its maps still showed only "Lake Ontario" as of Monday afternoon.

Google Maps already made the change for U.S. users over the weekend.

The company said it followed Trump's recent order and its policy of using names from the U.S. Geographic Names Information System.

Google said U.S. users will see "Lake America."

Canadian users will see "Lake Ontario."

Users in other places will see both names.

Trump signed the order on Friday.

He renamed the lake during his trade fight with Canada.

This move is one of his latest actions to upset Canada.

Tariffs are rising on both sides of the border.

The president cannot force Canada to accept the name.

The Seneca Nation's leader called it a break of a treaty over 225 years old.

He also called it a "blatant disrespect" for Indigenous people.

This is not Trump's first try to rename a body of water outside the U.S.

Last year, he ordered the Gulf of Mexico renamed the Gulf of America.

Apple and Google later changed that name on their U.S. maps.
