Aaron Sorkin made "The Social Network" in 2010.

At that time, he knew little about Facebook.

Now he has written and directed a new film.

It is called "The Social Reckoning."

The film is about what Facebook has become.

Sorkin says the movie looks at Facebook's role in extremism and division.

Sony will release it on Oct. 9.

Sorkin was hesitant to return to the subject.

The first film is highly praised.

He changed his mind after meeting whistleblower Frances Haugen and reporter Jeff Horwitz.

The new film stars Mikey Madison as Haugen.

Jeremy Allen White plays Horwitz.

Jeremy Strong plays Mark Zuckerberg.

Jesse Eisenberg did not want the role again, so Strong took it.

Sorkin began the project around 2019.

He wrote an op-ed to Zuckerberg first.

He said Facebook allowed "crazy lies" to spread.

He also blames the company for the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

Zuckerberg and Meta have not commented on the film.

Sorkin has never met Zuckerberg.

He says he reverse-engineers the results of Zuckerberg's thinking.

Strong, however, emailed Zuckerberg and defended him during filming.

Sorkin notes that Facebook now has about 3 billion users.
