Josh Kushner is a 41-year-old billionaire tech investor.

He has long stayed away from the spotlight, even though his last name is famous.

That changed this week.

He and former Disney CEO Bob Iger agreed to buy the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers from Mark Walter.

The deal values the team at $12.5 billion.

That is the highest price ever paid for a sports team.

Kushner is the younger brother of Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law.

He started the venture capital firm Thrive Capital in 2009.

He also started the health insurer Oscar Health in 2012.

Forbes says his net worth is about $5 billion.

He used to own a small part of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Later, he bought a share of the Miami Heat.

Iger is 75 years old.

He led Disney for two separate periods over more than twenty years.

He joined Thrive Capital as a venture partner in 2022.

But he left a few months later to go back to Disney.

Iger said the Lakers deal came together in three days.

He and Kushner learned that Walter might sell.

He also said they had tried to get a new NBA team in Las Vegas.

Kushner and his wife, Karlie Kloss, have said they do not share the conservative views of his brother and father.

Kushner has given money to progressive candidates.

Iger calls himself a political independent.

Iger grew up as a Knicks fan.

Later, he became a strong supporter of the Clippers.

So his move to own the Lakers is a big change.
