The Alpine Formula 1 outfit has recalibrated its driver roster, elevating Franco Colapinto for a minimum of the ensuing quintet of Grands Prix at the expense of Jack Doohan.
Alpine ratified the alteration on Wednesday, a day following Oliver Oakes's relinquishment of his position as team principal, with the team stating that Flavio Briatore will persist in his capacity as executive advisor, concurrently assuming Oakes's former responsibilities.
In a communiqué, Alpine disclosed that Colapinto is poised to join forces with Pierre Gasly, effective from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, with a further appraisal slated before the British Grand Prix in July.
Alpine languishes in the penultimate berth of the Formula 1 constructors' championship after six gruelling rounds; the ensuing race weekend is slated to transpire from May 16th to 18th at the iconic Imola circuit.
In the crucible of Sunday's Miami Grand Prix, Doohan's campaign was abruptly curtailed, first by a calamitous entanglement with a rival's machine on the inaugural circuit, followed by a terminal shunt on the subsequent rotation.
Speculation articulated in media discourse concerning a potential driver rotation was categorically repudiated prior to the Miami Grand Prix weekend by Oakes, who had previously asserted the retention of the rookie Australian driver in his current role.
Doohan, who failed to register a solitary point across his septenary of Grand Prix outings and whose preeminent placement was thirteenth, shall resume his previous capacity as the team's reserve driver.
Jack Doohan, scion of five-time motorcycle world champion Mick Doohan, initiated his Formula 1 trajectory in the culminating race of 2024 and commenced the present year with Alpine at the inaugural Australian Grand Prix, deputising for Esteban Ocon, who had departed Alpine following a lacklustre 2024 campaign.
Colapinto assumed the role of reserve driver for Alpine in January, a transition following his 2024 tenure with Williams, during which he accrued five championship points subsequent to his mid-season deputisation for Logan Sargeant in August.
