The Alpine Formula 1 team has executed a personnel reconfiguration within their driver contingent, elevating Franco Colapinto to a principal role for a minimum of the ensuing quintet of Grand Prix events, thereby supplanting Jack Doohan.
Alpine formally acknowledged the alteration on Wednesday, a mere twenty-four hours subsequent to Oliver Oakes' resignation as team principal, with the organisation stating that Flavio Briatore is to persist in his capacity as executive advisor and assume responsibility for Oakes' former functions.
Alpine disclosed in a communiqué that Colapinto is set to be paired with Pierre Gasly, commencing with the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, with a subsequent evaluation scheduled in advance of the British Grand Prix in July.
Subsequent to six circuits, Alpine occupies the ninth position in the F1 constructors’ championship standings; the ensuing race weekend is slated to transpire at Imola between the 16th and 18th of May.
During Sunday's Miami Grand Prix, Doohan was involved in a vehicular entanglement on the inaugural lap, subsequently sustaining a significant impact event on the following circulation.
Reports circulating within the media concerning a potential driver rotation were unequivocally refuted by Oakes preceding the Miami Grand Prix weekend, who had previously intimated the rookie Australian driver's continued occupancy of the seat.
Doohan, having failed to register a single point across his septenary of Grand Prix engagements and peaking at thirteenth place, will be demoted to his previous capacity as the team's supernumerary driver.
Scion of five-time motorcycle world champion Mick Doohan, Jack Doohan inaugurated his Formula 1 career during the denouement of the 2024 season, subsequently commencing the current campaign for Alpine at the inaugural Australian Grand Prix, assuming the mantle previously held by Esteban Ocon, whose departure from Alpine followed a rather underwhelming 2024 tenure.
Having raced for Williams in 2024, where he accrued five points following his assumption of Logan Sargeant's seat in August, Colapinto was subsequently co-opted by Alpine as a reserve driver in January.
