After losing the first game of the quarterfinal 4-0, Dortmund had nothing to lose on Tuesday and attacked Barcelona from the start, which surprised the visitors.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, who knows Dortmund well and has often won against them from his time in Germany, said he expected a difficult second game even with a four-goal lead because of the excited home fans.

Coach Niko Kovac said Guirassy is Dortmund's "life insurance." This was after a game where Guirassy continued to become famous quickly and became the top scorer in the Champions League this season.

Many people thought Dortmund had probably lost the quarterfinal in the first game. Also, their captain Emre Can and midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka could not play because they were injured earlier that day.

For a time, Guirassy made difficult things seem possible.

Guirassy had chances to score in the first game and missed a few more early in Tuesday's match. However, he scored from the penalty spot in the 11th minute after the Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny crashed into Pascal Gross.

Guirassy scored again with his head in the 49th minute to make it 2-0, and then an own goal by Ramy Bensebaini made it much more difficult for Dortmund.

Guirassy scored his third goal in the 76th minute. He took advantage of a mistake by defender Ronald Araujo and shot from close range. With 13 goals, he is now the top scorer in the Champions League this season.

This gave Dortmund new hope of completing one of the best comebacks in Champions League history, like Barcelona's against Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, but Barcelona won.

Barcelona will play either Inter Milan or Bayern Munich in the semifinals. This is the first time they have reached the last four teams in the Champions League since the 2018-19 season. In the other game on Tuesday, PSG also got to the semifinals by winning 5-4 against Aston Villa over two games, even though they lost the second game 3-2.

This defeat was Barcelona's first loss since December 21 and their first in the Champions League since September.

Dortmund might have to wait some time before they hear the Champions League music in their stadium again.

Last year, the team that came second in the Champions League is now eighth in the Bundesliga. They have five games left and are six points away from the places that get into the Champions League.
