One was Alex Gibney’s documentary “Musk.”
It runs for almost four hours.
The film looks at the power and influence of the world’s richest man.
Gibney said he began as an admirer.
He hoped Musk would agree to an interview.
Musk did not agree.
Gibney said the facts made him change his view.
He no longer sees Musk as a modern Leonardo da Vinci.
The film will open in North American theaters in October.
Another first showing was “Bunker.”
It is a thriller written and directed by Florian Zeller.
The film stars Javier Bardem as an architect.
He is asked to design a bunker for a tech billionaire.
Paul Dano plays that billionaire.
Bardem’s wife, played by Penélope Cruz, asks him questions about the project.
Zeller said the film looks at fear of the future and social inequality.
It shows these through a couple’s personal struggle.
He wrote it for Cruz and Bardem.
The two have acted together many times.
Cruz praised the film for showing a real bilingual home.
The family speaks Spanish at home while living in London.
She said audiences were ready for this.
But she added that financiers were harder to convince until recently.
Casey Affleck also showed his film “Company.”
He directed it and co-wrote it.
The film thinks deeply about grief and compassion.
It takes place in winter 1975.
A mysterious woman disrupts a holiday gathering.
Affleck said he was reacting to world conflicts and personal feelings.
But he said the film is not clearly political.
His children appear in it.
He dedicated it to his parents.
Both of them died this year and never saw it.
“Company” is competing for the Golden Lion.
The winners will be announced on Saturday.
