CBS News is changing its famous show “60 Minutes,” and many people are upset. Bari Weiss, the new CBS News leader, fired the top producer and two correspondents, and she also brought in a new chief with no TV broadcast experience. Scott Pelley, one of the best-known faces on the show, was also fired after a hard meeting with bosses.
The trouble became public after a long fight inside CBS News. Pelley said new management asked him to add false or unverified things to a story, but CBS News said this was not true. CBS News said there is no political interference, and that normal editor talks are the only issue.
The show has also had problems since a lawsuit by Donald Trump over a 2024 interview with Kamala Harris. CBS later settled the case for $16 million, and some people at “60 Minutes” were angry about that. The changes are part of a bigger shift at CBS News after David Ellison’s company took control.
Some people think “60 Minutes” can still stay strong, because it has a very famous name and a long history. But others worry that the show is being broken apart. CBS News says the new team wants to build a show that works in the 21st century.
