Gloria Steinem died on Wednesday.
She was 92 years old.
She was a big leader in the feminist movement.
That movement started in the late 1960s.
Her work began with the fight for abortion rights.
She saw this as key to women's equality.
That movement changed American culture.
It brought more women to work.
Steinem lived to see a push against her ideas.
In 2022, the Supreme Court ended Roe v. Wade.
This took away the right to abortion.
Thirteen states now ban abortion almost fully.
Steinem called this a problem for democracy.
Conservative people were happy about this decision.
They push for old gender roles.
Officials from the Trump administration and groups like the Heritage Foundation tell young women to marry early.
They say family is more important than work.
Some people, like analyst Emma Waters, say feminism pushes a career-first culture.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also shared a video.
In it, pastors say women should not vote.
Women's groups say these efforts want to make women weak.
They want new policies like paid family leave and low-cost child care.
These help families.
They do not force women to leave their jobs.
Historian Estelle Freedman said feminism is a big part of modern life.
Its power may not stop.
In her last essay, Steinem wrote that older people must tell others how far the movement has come.
