Californian aerospace startup JetZero Inc. has unveiled plans to establish a cutting-edge manufacturing facility in North Carolina dedicated to the production of its next-generation aircraft, a strategic initiative projected to generate in excess of 14,500 employment opportunities for the region over the coming decade. Capitalizing on a $4.7 billion investment at Greensboro Airport, the company intends to manufacture its Z4 aircraft, a blended-wing body (BWB) design predicated on delivering a fuel efficiency augmentation of up to 50% compared to conventional commercial airliners. Both United Airlines and Alaska Airlines have committed capital to the venture, executing conditional purchase agreements contingent upon successful prototype development and certification. The project further encompasses the establishment of a dedicated composite structures research and development (R&D) center, underpinned by anticipated state and local incentives exceeding $2.35 billion through the 2060s. JetZero projects commencing operational activities in the early 2030s, initially targeting a monthly production cadence of 20 aircraft. The company's immediate focus will be directed towards a commercial jet platform configured with approximately 250 seats and boasting a range of 5,000 nautical miles, positioning it strategically within the medium-haul, high-density market segment.
