In May, people in the US felt more confident about the economy, according to the Conference Board. This happened after five months of them feeling less positive. The confidence index went up by 12.3 points to 98, which is better than 85.7 in April. That was its lowest point since the pandemic began. This seems to be because people are a bit less worried about how President Trump's tariffs will affect the economy. However, what people expect for their income, businesses, and jobs in the near future is still below 80, which might mean a recession is coming. The Labor Department said that 177,000 jobs were added in April, and this helped people feel more confident. But, worries about tariffs and rising prices were still the main concerns in the survey. Even with these worries, people said they planned to spend more on houses, cars, and vacations.
