In May, people in the US felt more positive about the economy, according to the Conference Board. This was after five months of feeling less optimistic. The confidence index went up by 12.3 points to 98, which is better than 85.7 in April, the lowest point since the pandemic began. This improvement seems to be because people are a little less worried about how President Trump's tariffs will affect the economy. However, people's short-term expectations for their income, business, and job market are still below 80, which could mean a recession is coming soon. The Labor Department reported that 177,000 jobs were created in April, which helped people feel more confident. But, worries about tariffs and rising prices were still very common in the survey responses. Even with these concerns, people said they planned to spend more on homes, cars, and vacations.
