Donald Trump, who was the President, put new taxes on things coming into America from many countries. China and some others did the same thing back. Some of these taxes were stopped later, but many are still there and make things hard for businesses.

Companies that buy things made in other countries have to pay taxes on them. This makes the things cost more. Usually, companies make customers pay the extra cost. Trump said his new taxes would bring factories and money back to the U.S. But many things we buy come from all over the world. Because of this, experts say that these taxes will make many things more expensive, like food and car repairs.

Many companies (and their customers) have seen this happen. Here are some well-known shops that have said they will raise prices, or are expected to raise prices, because of the trade war.

Walmart tried to protect itself from some tax problems. They make about two-thirds of their products in America. But they still have some problems. Prices at Walmart went up a little in late April and are going up faster now. The company leaders said this on Thursday. They think the biggest price changes will happen in June and July. This is when many people shop for school.

The toy company makes 40% of its toys in China. They said prices might go up on May 5th. This was before the US and China agreed to wait 90 days to lower taxes. But the taxes are still higher than before Trump increased them last month.

Mattel said they plan to move about 500 products from China to other countries this year. Last year, they moved 280 products. This was said at a meeting about their profits. For some popular toys, they will use factories in more than one country.

In early May, Microsoft made Xbox game prices higher around the world. For example, the Xbox Series S now costs $379.99 in the US. It used to cost $299.99 in 2020. The Xbox Series X will cost $599.99 soon, which is more than the old price of $499.99.

Microsoft wrote in an Xbox update on May 1st, "We know these changes are difficult." The big tech company didn't say exactly what taxes were, but said "the general market and higher development costs" were the reason.

Besides the US, Microsoft has also changed the prices for Xbox in Europe, the UK, and Australia. The company said that other countries will also get similar updates. Microsoft also said they plan to make some new games more expensive for the holidays, at a price of $79.99.

Last month, big online shops Temu and Shein said they would raise prices. They both said this in similar announcements because of "changes in world trade rules and taxes."

In late April, customers saw higher prices for many things. This was especially true before May 2nd. On that day, a rule ended that helped shopping websites avoid taxes on cheap goods from China. A new deal between the US and China helped a little. But these products still have taxes. Now, cheap packages from China that come through the US Post Office have a 54% tax (it used to be 120%).

Even before this change, it seemed Temu stopped sending items from China and used stores in America. Temu, owned by a Chinese company called PDD Holdings, still advertises many products from "local" stores, saying there are "no import fees" for American customers. Also, Shein, which is based in Singapore, now says when you pay: "Taxes are already in the price. You will not pay more when it is delivered."

The leaders at Procter & Gamble, a very big company that makes things for homes like Crest toothpaste and Tide laundry soap, said they might need to make customers pay more because things are costing the company more. Last month, P&G said they are trying to lower costs, like finding new suppliers to avoid taxes. But, the company thinks customers might have to pay higher prices starting in July.
