A new rule in Peru about trees and animals makes groups who care about nature angry. They say it will cut down more trees in the Amazon.

Now, people don't need to ask the state to change forests. Some people say this is not good because it can help people cut trees illegally.

"For us, this is very bad," said a lawyer.

He said this change is bad. It makes land private. But this land belongs to Peru.

People who like the new rule say it helps farms and farmers in Peru.

They asked people who work on farms in Peru about the law. But only one person answered. They said they did not want to talk.

Peru has a lot of Amazon rainforest, second after Brazil. This forest is home to many plants, animals, and people. The people help protect the forest. The forest helps the Earth by taking in bad air.

A old law from 2011 said you needed OK from the state to cut trees. New rules make it easier to cut trees. Now you don't need the OK.

A court in Peru said a change about land use is okay. Some people think this is bad.

The court said it was wrong. Local people should have talked about changes to the law. The court also said the Environment Ministry is important for forests.

A lawyer said the court agreed that the rights of local people were not respected, but it still let the bad part happen.

This change is like what happened in Brazil before. In Brazil, the government and big farms worked together. They made rules for nature weaker to help the farms. In Brazil, a big group of farm businesses did this. In Peru, different people are doing it together, and they are strong too.

In Peru, some people help. They work on big farms, take land, mine illegally, or sell drugs. Small farmers also help because they want to keep their land safe.

"Bad people and good people are working together," said Vladimir Pinto from a group that helps nature.

Julia from Peru said the government is wrong. The government says the changes are for Europe's rules. Soon, companies in Europe need to show their food products like soy and meat do not come from forests that were cut down illegally.

If things from cutting trees illegally can be sold later, rules in places like Europe will not work well, she said.

This is not good for the world and makes it harder to stop cutting down trees, Urrunaga said.

Mr Coupleux from the EU in Peru says the new laws are not because of the EU's rule about trees.

Coupleux said in Peru that the new rule helps stop buying things from cut-down forests. It means we need to know where coffee, cocoa, and wood come from and grow them in a good way.

Groups will go to courts in other countries. They say the court's decision is bad for other countries.

Many Native leaders think this law is bad for their land, their people, and their life.

Julio Cusurichi said this will help people take land and hurt nature in places that are not strong.

We always took care of our lands and the Earth, Cusurichi said.
