The family of Nolan Wells had previously contended that messages appeared to have been expunged from his mobile device prior to its restitution, constituting merely one of a litany of grievances they have articulated concerning the circumstances and inquiry pertaining to his demise.

On Wednesday, they convened with District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath, primarily to deliberate upon the modalities of the investigative procedure.

However, attorney Ben Crump stated that McIlrath additionally committed to submitting the findings of the inquiry to a grand jury upon its conclusion.

Despite assiduous and repeated overtures to McIlrath’s office for a response, every endeavor proved entirely unavailing.

A grand jury, ordinarily comprising between 15 and 25 citizens, scrutinizes the prosecutor's evidence to ascertain whether there exists probable cause sufficient to warrant an indictment, Rychlak expounded.

Wells had journeyed to the island in the company of acquaintances, yet he did not return with them upon their departure at approximately 3 p.m.

The Congressional Black Caucus also weighed in on Wednesday, augmenting the chorus of demands for an independent inquiry into the fatality.

Authorities from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, in conjunction with other agencies, were expeditious in asserting that no foul play was suspected in his demise.

The findings of an official autopsy remain pending, and the investigation is ongoing, officials stated.

Both legal representatives of the family and investigators from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department have appealed for witnesses or anyone possessing video footage from the island to come forward, as they endeavour to elucidate the circumstances preceding Wells’ disappearance and death.

Wells, who would have attained the age of 19 next month, attended Southwest Mississippi Community College, where he served as a wide receiver on the football team.

His family has called for a more exhaustive inquiry, contending that he was capable of swimming.

They have further questioned why his companions would have abandoned him while retaining possession of his keys and mobile telephone.

Relatives retrieved his mobile device from the residence of one of Wells’ acquaintances on the evening of July 4, having employed a geolocation application to ascertain its whereabouts.

His family stated that their son was an avid user of Snapchat; however, no posts or messages had been generated in the approximately 24 hours preceding its recovery.

Crump had previously articulated his intention to commission an expert to determine the feasibility of data recovery from the mobile device or social media platforms.

On Wednesday, he affirmed that this endeavor would be pursued in concert with investigators from the prosecutor's office.
