YouTube has asked a court to change a decision.

A jury said YouTube made its platform to keep young users watching.

The jury said YouTube did not care about their health.

YouTube's lawyers sent the appeal on Monday.

They sent it to a court in Los Angeles.

Meta was also in the case.

Meta sent its own appeal a week before.

The case was about a 20-year-old woman.

Her name is KGM, or Kaley.

She said she became addicted to social media when she was a child.

The jury said YouTube and Meta did not take care.

Their actions were a big reason for her harm.

The jury gave her $3 million for her loss.

They also said the companies should pay $3 million more as punishment.

Her lead lawyer, Mark Lanier, said the team thinks the appeal court will keep the first decision.

Google spokesperson José Castañeda said YouTube planned to appeal.

He called it a usual step.

The trial judge, Carolyn B. Kuhl, said no to new trials for both companies.

She did this in early June.

During the trial, YouTube said it is not a social media platform.

Both YouTube and Meta also talked about a law.

The law is Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.

It protects tech companies from problems about content from other people.

Kaley's case was the first of its kind.

The decision could change many other similar cases.

TikTok and Snapchat parent Snap Inc. were also in the case.

But they settled before the trial started.
